Political Postings, Comments & Trolls…oh my!

I did something yesterday that I haven’t done publicly before, aside from doing so on a friend’s Facebook post.  I actually commented on a news agency’s political posting regarding Governor Christie and the George Washington Bridge lane closings.  I can officially tell you that if you have ever wondered where all the trolls are hiding…I found them.  The question was; “Do you think Christie knew and if so could this hurt his chances at being POTUS?”  My comment was this; “Whether he knew or not, still happened on his watch and he needs to be held accountable.”  I’ve seen tigers take more time to pounce.  First, take into account the numerous likes on my post.  Some people actually agreed with me.  Imagine that.  Now follow down to the “trolls”.  These are the people who lie in wait for the next available prey.  They hit my friend, who posted before me, first, then me.  Basically, what it came down to in their eyes is 1). Hillary Clinton & Pres. Obama should not be held accountable for their actions. (I’m guessing she’s referring to Benghazi.  Way to stay on topic).  2). The ever popular phrase ‘what difference does it make’,  3). It was only a road closure so no one is to blame. (tell that to the hundreds of drivers stuck in traffic for hours for no apparent reason), and last, but certainly not least, 4). Someone trying to assure me she was not nuts.  She would have done better by saying nothing.

This is only a small sampling of why this country is in the mess it’s in.  Primarily caused by people who think it’s okay for politicians to just walk away from whatever mess they, or their staff, those of whom they are responsible for, may have created and not be held accountable for their actions.  And I say this because these people will continue to put those political figures back in the saddle, over and over, no matter how many times they fall off their high horse.  And yet, these will be the same people complaining about how poor a job said cowboy is doing.  I always wonder what exactly someone sees when they support a candidate.  Is it the promise of a better life, or of the troops coming home for good, or lower taxes?  When you finally realize it’s all ploy to get you to vote for their candidate, maybe, just maybe, we’ll start to see a change.

Until then, look around you and see that things are not OK at the corral…..

Where is the love?

Where is the love? Isn’t that what the wedding industry is all about?  Couples, pledging their love and life together.  How come this same concept doesn’t hold true for the people who help bring this event to fruition, aka the wedding vendors?  If you think the nasty and negative comments you leave on different social media outlets can’t be seen by potential clients, you couldn’t be more wrong.  Word of mouth is huge in the wedding industry.

It’s a new year and in the past 7 days I have seen more bickering and bullying by wedding vendors, to and about other vendors, their so-called peers, than ever before.  This is part of the reason I left the industry.  However, just because I left doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention to what’s happening.  I just have a different perspective.  I’m no longer the vendor, now I’m the client.  What I am seeing is other vendors posting about how disgusted they are that this is even happening.  Is it really necessary to be so rude to someone who may be asking for advice on a particular subject?  Ridicule does not belong in an industry based on love.  There are plenty of opportunities for everyone associated with weddings.  If you’re doing well, there really is no reason to tread on the those who are just starting to make a name for themselves.  It’s easy to step on toes, until someone steps back.

Bully – n; A person who is habitually cruel or overbearing, especially to smaller or weaker people.

Consider how you would feel coming into any industry without the knowledge of those who have been in it for years.  I’m sure some of you were lucky enough to find a mentor.  Pay it forward.  Instead of stomping on someone’s dream, help make it a reality.

No one likes a bully.  Unless you want your good name associated with the term, you might want to consider your words before actually saying them.

On a personal note, Congratulations to the hard working wedding vendors who won the “Couple’s Choice Award”.  An award well deserved by most.  Some have put down the award, stating it’s meaningless because it’s based on reviews. I’m thinking they’re putting it down because they didn’t receive one. 😉

She found her voice,

Among the quiet thunder,

A sound so loud, it could only be heard,

As a wave crashing along the shore,

A bee humming softly in its hive,

Building to a deafening crescendo,

Awaiting the last word.

What Is It About Snow & French Toast?

The weatherman says we’re in for a major snow event…start your engines.  You know you have to get to the grocery store for the most important three items on the list…milk, eggs & bread aka French Toast.  What is it about snow that makes everyone crave this irresistibly delicious breakfast food?

Image

Of course I’m kidding.  But I really do want to know why people panic when a weather event is announced. It’s weather, it happens every day.  And it’s not like we haven’t been through it before.  The media hype is just that, hype.  Unless you’re a transplant from Hawaii, most Northerners know how to handle the snow.  You may even get a day off from work or school.

Look at it this way, it’s Winter.  It’s going to snow.  It’s going to sleet.  Put on your Winter coat, go outside, build a snowman, have a snowball fight, flop in the snow and make a snow angel.  Be a kid again.  Then wait for the roads to clear, the deliveries made and then go buy your milk, eggs & bread.  Make your French Toast and be sure to invite me over.  I’ll bring the syrup. 😉
