Believe

That anything
Can happen
If you want it to

Believe
That everything
And everyone
Has a purpose
Especially you

Believe
In the beauty
Of a dream
That guides you
To your destiny

Believe
That no matter who
Tells you you cannot
You know
You can
If you simply

Believe

Life is like

A jigsaw puzzle

Each piece

Trying to fit

Into the next

Yet so many

Look the same

Delaying the way

We view

Do you have Klout? The numbers really don’t mean anything

Well, do you? Does it matter?  Numerous stories have been written regarding the website Klout. They claim to be The Standard for Influence.  According to Klout, people whose score is 60+ rank in the top 5% of influencers across the internet.  Visit their About page and you’ll discover even their leadership team is not in the top 5%.  Three of the six are below the standard, including their VP of Marketing, the CTO and the SVP of Product.   The site, launched in 2008, has undergone many changes over the past five years, mostly how your score is calculated, after an uproar sent them scrambling.

Influence

The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.

Klout’s definition of Influence is “the ability to drive action. When you share something on social media or in real life and people respond, that’s influence. The more influential you are, the higher your Klout Score.”  These social media influences range from Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.

According to Klout;

The Klout Score isn’t the average of your influence across all your networks, it’s the accumulation. Adding networks adds to your ability to share your expertise, and that helps your Klout Score. If you remove networks and then add them back later it could take a few days for your Klout Score to readjust.

So can someone explain to me why, when all my social media pages are active, interactive and busier than ever, that my score continues to drop?  Does it really calculate based on the number of interactions over a period of time?  I am primarily a Facebook user. According to my stats, 49.5% of my score comes from Facebook, followed by Twitter at 40%, then Google+ and LinkedIn.  These percentages are not correct.  I am a huge Facebook user and a lesser user of Twitter.  These two should not be as close as Klout claims.  I’ve been carefully watching over the past 30 days and have also noticed that they only choose to show, on my profile page, the posts with the least interactions.  They also include, for the general public to view, Top Moments.  Again, how is this determined? What happened to the posts with the most interaction & how does this account for a proper score?

In the end, the number really doesn’t matter.  What matters is the clout you hold among your peers.  Without that, you might as well be a zero.

She awoke in her room

To no light, only shadows

Playfully dancing across the walls

Would she, by chance

Catch a glimpse of him?

Do not blink

A lost chance

The shadows fade

Among the memories

Of days past

Political Postings, Comments & Trolls…oh my!

I did something yesterday that I haven’t done publicly before, aside from doing so on a friend’s Facebook post.  I actually commented on a news agency’s political posting regarding Governor Christie and the George Washington Bridge lane closings.  I can officially tell you that if you have ever wondered where all the trolls are hiding…I found them.  The question was; “Do you think Christie knew and if so could this hurt his chances at being POTUS?”  My comment was this; “Whether he knew or not, still happened on his watch and he needs to be held accountable.”  I’ve seen tigers take more time to pounce.  First, take into account the numerous likes on my post.  Some people actually agreed with me.  Imagine that.  Now follow down to the “trolls”.  These are the people who lie in wait for the next available prey.  They hit my friend, who posted before me, first, then me.  Basically, what it came down to in their eyes is 1). Hillary Clinton & Pres. Obama should not be held accountable for their actions. (I’m guessing she’s referring to Benghazi.  Way to stay on topic).  2). The ever popular phrase ‘what difference does it make’,  3). It was only a road closure so no one is to blame. (tell that to the hundreds of drivers stuck in traffic for hours for no apparent reason), and last, but certainly not least, 4). Someone trying to assure me she was not nuts.  She would have done better by saying nothing.

This is only a small sampling of why this country is in the mess it’s in.  Primarily caused by people who think it’s okay for politicians to just walk away from whatever mess they, or their staff, those of whom they are responsible for, may have created and not be held accountable for their actions.  And I say this because these people will continue to put those political figures back in the saddle, over and over, no matter how many times they fall off their high horse.  And yet, these will be the same people complaining about how poor a job said cowboy is doing.  I always wonder what exactly someone sees when they support a candidate.  Is it the promise of a better life, or of the troops coming home for good, or lower taxes?  When you finally realize it’s all ploy to get you to vote for their candidate, maybe, just maybe, we’ll start to see a change.

Until then, look around you and see that things are not OK at the corral…..
