Wrapped inside a hardened shell
An iridescent gem does dwell
Hidden deep, beneath the sea
Yet, not much larger than a pea
Begins, when oysters take offense
Triggering layers, of self defense
Fighting, to make its bed just right
As such, creates this luminous sight
Which sets a woman’s heart awhirl
Ah, the beauty, of a cultured pearl

When I read the first line I instantly started humming one of my favorite Supertramp songs.
