I bet you thought they would frighten me
All those white mice, nestled in an old tree
But let me tell you, how they got up there
This is a scene, most think would be rare
I heard them holler, so I came, like thunder
Buried in the snow, was a house, gone under
I had to figure out a way, to help save the mice
There wasn’t much time, I couldn’t think twice
I picked up the house, and held it in my trunk
Lifted it up to the tree, dropped it down, plunk
Straightened it, carefully, in the bend of a branch
Those little mice, still, on top of their ranch
When all had settled, they thanked me a bunch
For not thinking to make them, my dinner or lunch
Making sure they’d be fine, I turned to head home
Back to the jungle, where I most like to roam
Waving, they said, they hoped we’d be friends
Nodding, I left, but this isn’t quite where it ends
Soon I returned, on the first day of spring
To set the house aground, but this time I brought string

Exactly, Dorinda. We watch the nature documentary every night. It’s amazing that the leading female elephant always remembers where the water hole is year after year regardless the sand covering any traces in the desert!! ❤

Lovely story/poem, Dorinda. Elephants are usually afraid of mice, so this elephant put aside his fear in order to help the mice family. That’s so sweet. Your story went perfectly with the image. Loved it! ❤ xo

What a dear, kind and helpful Elephant! I loved your brilliant use of rhyme, my favorites were the pairing of trunk / plunk and the unexpected way you used “… dinner or lunch” line. Awesome!

Thanks, Ethan! Not every mouse and elephant relationship has to be bad 😉

I’m very happy you feel that way. I wanted to convey the need for all species (especially man) to get along, even in the oddest situations. 🙂
