A lantern is no longer lit
Near this cell, where I must sit
Darkness plagues my every day
Yet in this narrow space I stay
Golden skies, in this empty place
Soar across, in an endless race
Yet, I cannot see them with my eyes
I see them in my mind and try
To recreate a land once cherished
Where land and trees forever flourished
And flora once did overwhelm
When I was ruler of this realm

I love the way this one flows. Brought images of daily struggles to my mind, sprinkled with a little bit of fairytale dust towards the end. Loved it!

Oh wow, what an insight in that last sentence. Amazing poem and how you led to the solution of the story!
