This cute little rodent
Who scurries around
Has built a new condo
All underground

A million new holes
All over my lawn
He must have been digging
From dusk until dawn

And he found a new lounging spot
Inside my grill
He thinks it’s his deck
Overlooking the hill

He sits there and lazes
He thinks he’s a winner
But he better watch out
Or he’ll end up as dinner

 A golden orb
Illuminating the ebony sky
Peeking playfully
Through the branches of
Still barren trees

Allowing the mind
To let mystery unfold
As the full moon beckons
Those who know its call

Taken For Granted

Taken for granted
The ins and outs
The day to day

Never really stopping
To be thankful, grateful
For all that is given

Focusing only on
What’s taken away
Hoping tomorrow
Holds brighter paths
Cursing the day
When it does not

Eventually realizing
It’s up to you
To change the scope
Of things yet to come

A Mother’s Love

Why does it seem
Just yesterday
I held your hand
I watched you play

The time’s flown by
You’ve grown too fast
Please slow it down
Please make it last

As you get older
I do, too
Let’s back it up
Let’s start anew

I guess it’s time
To let you go
To find yourself
To let you sow

And show the world
Your shining star
A fine young man
Who will go far

And I will smile
With tears of joy
And proudly state
Yes! He’s my boy!

The Copycat

Why are there so many
Who copy this and that?
They try so hard
To be like you
But never wear the hat

They say it’s a form
Of flattery
They really have no clue
You see, no one can ever imitate
The person who is you
