She waited for him
By their favorite table
Snow covered ground
Frosty air, set the scene

Looked quite debonair
For his sweetheart, Mable
A bow tie around his neck
Nothing less for his queen

On his tray was a cupcake
With a cherry on top
Said he loved her dress
That she looked really keen

To her, he was her hero
And she was the cream of the crop
Their romance, lasted only a season
Just like Old Man Winter, had foreseen

Soft fronds, waving, in a gentle breeze

Like the wind, blowing, through your hair

Silently swaying, they do as they please

Soaking in fresh air, no time for despair

For winter’s iciness will do what it takes

To places, where the tall grasses grow

Alas, quivering, in the ripples on the lake

Is the last of where autumn freely flows

Morning awakens from its slumber
Shaded, misty blue, against the night
Quietly, I sit in this tree to ponder
What it is that summons me to the light

I find myself in this solemn place
Each day, it grows much stronger
The feeling I get, when I am here
How I wish it would stay much longer

But the frost’s below me, on the ground
The telltale signs of winter’s calling
Bringing emptiness to autumn trees
As all at once, the leaves stop falling

Seeds of solitude, embrace me
Though your leaves have turned to brown
May I stay here with you, upon this limb?
I’ve no desire to ever get down

Mixing autumn’s shades and hues

With barren branches, ever drear

How quickly til this season ends

Afore winter’s cold doth reappear

With winter’s cruel strike

The Earth offers no comfort

Many will hunger
