Soft wisps paint the sky

A concoction of colors

In cloud formation

Time waits for no one, it’s just thrown away

A simple hour, quickly, turns into a day

Minute by minute, we forget before

What happens, when we want a little more

We sit and we wait, but it passes us by

Wondering how and not knowing why

We try to make it stay, a bit longer, but no

It reminds us it has a need to go

And just like that, we have lost it all

Zapped away, no matter how we stall

We’ll never believe it, though days are blown

Wanting only to remain, in our own time zone

Crystal cloves, unlike any other

A little spice will enhance your food

Best to use them quite sparingly

They put you in an amorous mood

Just a touch, a pinch or two

That’s all that’s really needed

To turn around a boring night

Expectations will be exceeded

The Gnomes of Netherland – #OctoberWriting #OctPoWriMo #poetry

The gnomes of Netherland

Had a knack for stealing

Once they got into your garden

They’d send flower beds reeling

Sneaked in at midnight

Took whatever they could

Then sneaked out, come morning

Even taking some wood

Til one day they faltered

Caught off guard, you could say

They found it quite awkward

So, in the garden they’d stay

Turned to mere ornaments

To decorate the flowerbeds

These gnomes of Netherland

Are now American, instead

She could never get it quite right
Mixed the craziest things together
Fire and brimstone, all through the night
Eye of newt, pinch of rat and a feather

She stirred the cauldron many times
Until she couldn’t stir any longer
So, into the pot, she decided to climb
Thought the brew should be a bit stronger

All you could see were boots on her feet
On her legs, orange stockings of lace
Twas told her nectar was hard to beat
As should be, in any witch’s case

Bubbles made their way to the top
One by one, they escaped in the air
Esmeralda stayed, no, she didn’t stop
Sucking down her brew, without care

When the others arrived to sample
Her head was still stuck in the crock
This witch wasn’t setting a good example
She was drunk to the hilt, what a shock!

They tried to pull her from the pot
They couldn’t budge her, not an inch
Esmeralda now known as a wicked old sot
Best be careful, you could be her next pinch
