I wait upon the edge of time
Oceans carrying my thoughts
Beyond the places in my mind
Casting away memories
Written once, in rhyme

I wait upon the winds that blow
Lofting away with the clouds
And catch the colors as they flow
Lazily, ever lingering
In the moonlit glow

I wait upon the lilac skies
Surrounding, floating freely
And I shall wait forever more
Like the waves upon the sea
Calm against the sandy shore
While time still passes by me

Clothes, too large, tattered and torn

Sweater sleeves cut, used for socks

No place to turn, no phone to call

Out on the streets, of hard knocks

Dirty knees that haven’t had a bath

In so long, you’ve forgotten now

Panhandling your way, for a buck

But no one will feed you, anyhow

Wandering, empty, down the lanes

Where others avoid you, quite cleverly

Shadows at night, in the splatter of rain

Leave you, with ragamuffin memories

Memories, faded, in black and white

A toddler explores, stars, in the light

Against the guardrail, inquisitive wonder

That no adult should ever plunder

Poking and pushing, to find the entrance

Standing on tiptoes, he takes his chances

Behind the tarpaulin, lies adventure

Let him be, don’t let there be censure

His imagination, must fly in the breeze

Past the circus clowns, and forest trees

And as I watch, and hope that I can see

Deep inside, I know, a piece of him, is me

Now dressed in uniform, on his arm is his lady

I am thankful for photos, of my blue jean baby

Now, to the contest!

There were many great submissions but my top three included:

3. McGee Travel Tale’s “Hot Chocolate” recipe! Because who doesn’t love hot chocolate?

2. Ivor’s “My Lost Sock, A Christmas Story.” Because it brings together harsh reality and light-hearted whimsy!

That mean the winner is . . .

Dorinda Duclos from Night Owl Poetry!

Not only is her poem wonderful, but I absolutely adore it’s structuring. Check it out here and be sure to stop by her blog!

My footsteps, impressions, a story in rhyme

Water below me, frozen in time

Mirrored reflections, covered in snow

Over the bridge, back home I shall go

Where winter has left its mark on my soul

Dusted, with memories, from my evening stroll
