Just a Number

We are just a number
Dehumanized in every way
Punched into electronic drones
No longer do we have a say

Do you know our first name?
Do you know our face?
Did you know that we are
Members of the human race

No, we are just a number
Crooked lines across the screen
Lost in a computer’s memory
Never really being seen

Without Goodbye

We talked for hours
The time flew by, without
a single thought of
anyone else
Just the two of us, sharing
laughing, listening
dreaming, of a better
world, a better tomorrow
For us

Then you’re gone
Not a moment’s notice, not
a word nor a wave
leaving me confused
Why did you stop by,
why did you stay so long
only to disappear
From my view

And I ponder the moment
we met
The happiness, the joy
the sorrow, the tears
And I can’t help
but wonder
why you left
without goodbye.

vintage-1722325_960_720Do not look for me
Hidden in a fort
Beneath icy snow
Still falling carelessly above

Between the daffodils and daisies
Amidst the cool grasses
Of a wakening meadow

Along the dunes on the beach
Betwixt the waves
Crashing on the shore

Encompassed by leaves
Strewn across the ground
In no particular way

In the obvious places
You presume to find
A wandering spirit
I will not be there

Instead look within and find
A life otherwise uncommon
With its own rhythm
A heart’s journey

It is there you may find
Who you are seeking
It is there you will
Find me lost

Lost Among The Living

They walk among us
Shrouded figures in black hooded cloaks
With glistening eyes no one can see
A fierce determination no one can feel

Asking again,
“Is my journey not over
What keeps me here
Someone please answer”
But no one can hear
“God, can you help me
I can only feel fear”

Pleading one last time
Into darkening skies
They lower their heads
And silently cry…

Convicted and cursed
Now broken and ungiving
They are simply shadows
Forever lost among the living
