The sky grows dark

Throwing shadows
To the light

Out of the clouds

Comes a beauty
Cloak of white

The body of dove

Flutters softly
To the tree

Lands upon a limb

She sits, waiting there
For me

And quietly, I walk

To where she is
Above the ground

The word of God
Speaks through her

A message…

…Quite profound

From the author herself:

“Sublime Shadows of Life is a comment on life, its turbulent curves and relationships. It envisions people through the prism of poetry. I, you, he, we and they are universal symbols which highlight the fact that happiness is not a destination but a chasm to bury agony, anguish, grief, distress and move on! No sea of solitude is so deep that it can drown us. Sometimes aspirations are trampled upon, the boulders of exploitation and discrimination may block your path but those who tread on undeterred are always successful.”

My Review:

“Sublime Shadows of Life is a perfectly titled book, from author Balroop Singh. Each poem easily glides into the next yet, each one is its own entity. Singh captivates your heart, drawing you into her words, allowing you to feel the pain, the love, the longing for lost possessions and the fear of death. These complex emotions will have you rooting for the underdog, no matter who it may be, though you will find yourself in many of the verses.

In a journey through the ups and downs of life, we find there is always light after the darkness, there is always freedom from the demons who haunt, and there is always a chance to breathe new life into one’s own broken soul. Singh provides us with a means to forge ahead, and never give up.

This book is truly sublime poetry, written with the pen of a beautiful soul. Her words will clearly speak to you, as they did me.

Daylight does not last forever

It parts when its time is done

Hides behind the hills of heather

Bows to the slowly setting sun

Casts its final shadows deep

Against the dark of the night

Tis this time, she peacefully sleeps

Til morning dares to share her light

I’ve never denied the power of my darkness
Tis a place I find myself lost in, quite often
This place where evil thoughts permeate air
Unsettling, the words of love, do not soften

I’ve never denied the power of my darkness
The depths in which I throw about these fits
There is no caution to the wind, no stop sign
I just continue to lash out, as my time permits

I’ve never denied the power of my darkness
Though at times, I wish to only see the light
That weaves its way through the gaping holes
Left here, in this place, for me, by the night

Sunset welcomes night

Blushing, in vivid colors

Rose, crimson and wine

An endless brilliance that shines

Against the ebb of the light
