For Steve…

How can I be so beautiful?

Then disappear before your eyes

I’m here today, then off I go

I know you’ve wondered why

Perhaps it’s meant to happen

Paving the way, for another bloom

Upon the stalk, that holds me up

Perchance, it needs more room

Though I am here to dazzle, it seems

For merely a day or two

My time here, is a short one

So I’ve blossomed, just for you

When one fades away

Another brings forth new life

I hide, in an obvious place

In the most unusual space

Though you think all you see

Is a shriveled up tree

What it is, is really my face

Disguised, like the bark of an oak

I quietly watch, as the folk

Walk by me and glance

Did they see me, by chance?

When I’m hidden, under this cloak

There’s no need to fear my presence

I’m simply the earth, in its essence

I’ll be here awhile

Mystify and beguile

Until, I depart, evanescence

I’ll keep this to myself, she said

While thoughts are swirling in her head

No need for her to burden you

With things, you’ll only misconstrue

Let it fade away, in hermetic mist

With red lips, and a silent kiss

She’s not about to speak a word

A secret never should be heard
