A mighty tree gave way
To the swing of the
Wooden handled steel bladed
Weapon that took its life
As it lay on the ground
No longer majestic
I found myself saddened
How ironic
That a tool made with the
Layers of the fallen lumber
Extinguished its very essence
So yet another could be forged

Title amended 6/3/14 – Formally “Mighty Tree”
Reminds me of Rabindranath Tagore:
‘The sandalwood / as though to show how sweet / it is for love to conquer hate / perfumes the ax that lays it low’

Yes, it does. I have never read that poem and am happy you shared it. I watched as a mighty Ash tree was taken down yesterday, and found myself inspired and saddened at the same time.
