Truth is, it’s no joke. I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Along with that comes the daily blood testing (my fingers are rebelling) and all the “you can’t have this” and “watch your carbs”. You have to understand that telling me to “watch my carbs” is like cutting off both arms and legs. I am a carbaholic. But, cut them I have. However, I absolutely refuse to eliminate them from my eating plan.
I guess it was inevitable. My paternal grandmother was diabetic, my dad was and my mom is. Genetics is not on my side. However, I refuse to let this dominate who I am. I am in control. And I say “TAKE A HIKE, GET LOST, GO AWAY!” So this is my next journey in this thing called life. I refuse to allow any illness to take over my being. I have fought all my life, from my birth, a major car accident (in which the officer on the scene said he was only dispatched for fatalities. I told him I was sorry I ruined his day), to being diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, an illness that completely turned my life upside down. But here I am, still standing, stronger than ever and more determined to rid myself of these evil entities.
I guess you’re wondering why I am telling you this. It’s like this. If you’re following my blog or reading on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc, then you’re already on my journey with me. The ups and downs of my writing are a reflection of me. And you’re along for the ride. Buckle up, it may get bumpy.
If you have Diabetes and would like to share your story, tips, etc, please feel free to leave a comment. I would love to know how others handle their condition. Thanks!
