It is time that I
wrap myself in
silken threads
and slumber, not
for eternity, but
for a moment, until
I am no longer
an ugly creature
but one of beauty and grace
And I can spread my wings
and fly

Like a canyon, vast and boundless
Reaching out beyond
The stretch of imagination
Bouncing back, echoing louder
A mirror image, a reflection
Prodding, urging
Impersonating
With resounding knowledge
With infinite understanding

Uncertain of how the world views me
I take my phone and hold it
Arms length from my face
And click the button

The lonely soul looking back at me
Is someone I do not recognize
I must be doing something wrong

I take more pictures, too many to count
Determined to capture
Through someone else’s eyes
The image I see of myself
