The journey of a soul
Is but a glint
Of bursting sunlight
Glimmering, through
An open window

Shrouded by
Darkness, dank and gloomy
Lurking in the shadows
Raising questions
Casting doubt
Second guessing

The flutter of the wind
Through the naked pane
Draws it back, wondering if
Perhaps a simple gust
Of a summers breeze
Will brush it all away

Allowing for the reflection
Of the innermost
Transcendent thoughts
A juncture in life
The now
and the destined…

Kissing The Beach

For Gail…

Stretched out
Over a turquoise sea
That meets bright blue skies
Kissing the beach

In a rendezvous with
White sand
As the surf comes in
Rolling by and back again

Teasing, as I lean down
Fingertips grazing
The captivating tide

The Old Man and the Hammock

Laced between two
Towering chestnuts
A lone cloth sways
In the breeze

An old man approaches
Fascinated by this haven
Harbored in the trees
Seemingly suspended in midair

He touches the soft weave
Halting its tireless exchange
Taking a step back
To ponder this canvas

Gently placing his body
Into the cradling cocoon
An old man sways
In the breeze

French Toast

French Toast
I still don’t have the answer
To a question asked
So long ago
Why do you buy milk, eggs and bread
When someone mentions snow

Does this sinfully sweet
Breakfast fare
Make us become a little manic
If we don’t get the ingredients
Do we all begin to panic

Do the slices of bread
With their cinnamon swirl
Remind you of riding a sled

Or the soft golden butter
Melting over the top
Remind you of warm days ahead

Do the fluffy white flakes
Falling down from the sky
Remind you of powdered confection

Or the syrup that’s oozing
Dripping over the sides
Remind you of sweet perfection

I want to know the simple truth
About this French Toast story
I’m pretty sure it’s not just snow
That gives it all its glory

Here’s the original story that asked the burning question: What Is It About Snow & French Toast?

Rapids

Rushing
Over jagged edges
Around winding curves
Tossing us about
Landing hard

Such is life
Bumps in the road
Well placed ahead
Some out of view
Eventually leading us
Into the calm
