I waited in autumn

Near our bench, for you

The leaves fell, floating

Reaching, never touching

The ground, filled with

Pine trees, shedding

Their coats of needles

And I, I could shed no tears

Watching, listening, not hearing

Is when I knew, you had gone

And this bench, shall remain empty

Forever and always, like

The emptiness, deep within my heart

I feel the leaves against my skin

They fall, and swirl, and fall again

Across the meadow, and in between

The most beautiful things I’ve ever seen

Still, they sadden me, when they fall

Where they once held their grandeur, tall

Upon the trees, now bare of them

The ground, soon owns these colored gems

And paints the landscape, bright and bold

A palette of orange, red and gold

With this, I find the need to smile

So I’ll stay, and watch them dance awhile
