I tried to read the words
but the water washed them away
Every bit of ink a blur
every letter no different than another
Ripples, and waves of
some other place and time, unknown
I watched them fade into oblivion
taken out with the tide
Perhaps they would return again
perhaps they would not
And how was I to know
without remembering what was
I pondered a bit longer
then finally, I lifted up my glass
Like magic, they reappeared
whole, as if they’d never gone
And yet, the bottom of my glass
knew better, it new the truth
That the words would
someday, fade away, and I with them

The words didn’t fade. The water took them all over the world, where they affected readers in different ways, for don’t we read the same text differently? That’s another, deeper meaning behind these powerful words, Dorinda. 😊

That last stanza gave me the chills, Dorinda. But true, isn’t it? A reason why today is so important.
