Each Tuesday, I will be sharing a short story, over several parts. When one ends, I will begin another the following week. I hope you enjoy! 🙂
He couldn’t believe what he saw. What was once a mountain top covered in snow, was now a beach on the water’s edge, waves crashing ashore, against the clouded, blue sky. There was a noise so deafening, he couldn’t hear himself think. It was then he realized there was not just one or two more, but hundreds of owls approaching, flying over the ocean. He blinked, making sure his imagination, in the bright light of day, wasn’t playing tricks. That’s when he saw her. Half human, half owl, she towered where she stood. Could this be the Owl Queen he had heard so much about?
He was silent, standing as still as possible. Not even a feather from his wings, now lowered, was moving, although he was extremely nervous. He only knew the legend of the queen, but never thought he would ever be in her presence. Many had warned him about her, saying only that she was out for blood, to conquer all owls and rule the skies of night.
He waited. She said nothing. She only kept looking at him, cocking her head back and forth, narrowing eyes gazing, and then looking away. She spread her wings and took a step forward.
To be continued…
Author’s note: My apologies. I skipped last week because, well, I forgot LOL
