She awakens me with the soft colors of the dawn. Pastel shades that paint the skies, then fade away, giving life to a more vibrant palette. Crimson and orange, blend with the yellow of the morning orb, as she rises to the heavens. Her warmth brings comfort from the cold of the night, now left behind in her shadow. Grass perks and flowers stretch their petals, reaching up, swaying in the gentle breeze coming in off the lake. It is calm here, and I close my eyes, not to sleep, for I have already been. No, I close them, listening to the coo of a mourning dove. Who, I wonder, does she mourn? Is this a cry to silence the noise, so overwhelming, we no longer hear it? As I ponder this, she disappears, her work done, for she has opened my eyes to the darkness that still exists in the light.
